The worldwide transmission of COVID-19 has likely shifted your typical schedule upside down.
In uncertain times you can take comfort in knowing your residence is your safe area. You’re probably spending more time there now. That’s why your indoor air quality is now more crucial than ever.
Did you realize we can install indoor air quality products in your residence that provide hospital-grade filtration? These products can remove bacteria from your air, as well as allergens, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Modern houses are securely closed, which is fantastic for energy efficiency. But it also means your home’s air could be worse than the air outside. In fact, the EPA says it can be two to five times worse than outdoors. This can lead to issues since we spend about 90% of our days inside.
There are many elements that can cause poor indoor air quality, including cleaning products and air fresheners. These can result in headaches and exasperate allergies and asthma.
There’s a combination of things you can do to improve your air quality. Some include enhanced air filters, an air purification system or an ultraviolet (UV) germicidal light.
Not sure which system is best for your home? Our knowledgeable techs can complete an indoor air quality audit. Based on the outcome, we can then recommend the most fitting solution for your home’s distinct needs.

Air Filtration
When looking at air filters, it’s essential to review the MERV rating, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This assesses how effectively it filters air.
One of the most common and lowest priced filters, flat fiberglass filters, are rated between 1 and 4 on the MERV system. Pleated filters are somewhat better, rated between 8 and 12.
We suggest buying at minimum MERV 13, like the HC13 Media Air Cleaner, for the optimal effect. This filter delivers clearer air while reducing energy needs.
High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are considered the best in air filtration, since they’re typically installed in hospitals. They’re effective at capturing 99.97–99.99% of indoor pollutants, including pollen, pet dander and smoke.

Air Purification
Lennox offers some of the greatest air purification systems you can get. PureAir™ S and Healthy Climate™ PureAir Air Purification Systems deliver hospital-grade filtration while managing all kinds of indoor air contaminants.
These powerful systems can eliminate:
- 99.9% of allergens, including pollen, dust and pet dander.
- 95% of bacteria-sized particles, including ones that cause strep throat.
- 50% of VOCs and odors within 24 hours.
UV Germicidal Lights
A UV germicidal light is added within your heating and cooling unit. Its penetrating rays wipe out bacteria and mold within seconds.
If your family suffers from allergies or asthma, this equipment may offer relief. Especially if you live in a humid part of the country where bacteria and mold flourish.
This light also offers an added bonus for your comfort equipment. It may help it last longer and heat and cool more efficiently, since it keeps the internal components clean.
Our air quality engineers advise using one of these lights with an enhanced filter, such as our Carbon Clean 16® Media Air Cleaner, for optimal results. This filter offers industry-leading MERV 16 filtration in addition to carbon-coated fibers to remove particles from your residence’s air. It does all of this without limiting your heating and cooling unit’s airflow.
